2014 is an important year for India: Parliamentary elections are being held and the results of those elections could mean new impetus that could stimulate the Indian economy and pave the way for needed investments in the environmental sector: India wants and has to urgently improve its inadequate water-supply and sewage infrastructure.

Afriso: Prevention Instead of Renovation – Radio-controlled Shut-off Valve

It takes little effort and investment to avoid major water damage in apartments, houses or company buildings – and without tearing open walls and causing noise and dirt. Radio-controlled, battery-less water sensors placed on the floors of rooms (containing, for example, water pipes, bathtubs, showers, washing machines, dishwashers, washbasins, toilets, etc.) detect leaks and send a signal to a motorised shut-off valve which, in turn, shuts off the water pipe to keep further water from escaping.

Merely disposing of waste safely or cleaning up polluted water to make it safe is today just the start: Increasingly the emphasis is also on tapping into the energy potential that is hidden in waste materials, waste water and exhaust air. The latest technology and solutions to cope with these challenges are to be showcased between May 5 and 9, 2014, by exhibitors at IFAT, at the Messe München exhibition center.
